At Veterinary Center of Greater Newburyport, we practice high-quality, modern medicine. Our experienced doctors and dedicated staff listen to your pet and to you, and offer the best options to improve your pet's health.
Do you know what sets us apart from most veterinary hospitals? Here are some examples:
- Our annual Wellness Exams include a thorough head-to-toe physical examination. This includes checking the eyes and ears with special instruments, examining the mouth and teeth, listening to the heart and lungs, checking the skin and coat, and feeling the throat, abdomen, muscles, and joints.
- We schedule our doctor appointments for 30 minutes. We do not rush our patients or their owners.
- Our dedicated doctors return your telephone calls promptly.
- We do not re-use endotracheal tubes ("breathing tubes"). Each anesthetized pet receives a brand new endotracheal tube, trimmed to fit that patient perfectly to enhance anesthetic air flow. Tubes are never washed for re-use; each is discarded after single use.
- Sterile surgical procedures are performed in a dedicated surgical suite, used only for sterile surgeries. Even prepping and shaving your pet is done in a separate room.
- Anesthetized patients receive an intravenous (IV) catheter and fluids. This is standard practice at our hospital. An IV catheter enables delivery of fluids during surgery. This hydrates your pet and improves blood pressure. Your pet will wake up from anesthesia feeling better. An IV catheter also allows quick and easy blood vessel access in the event of an emergency, when drugs must be administered quickly.
- Surgical patients always have pre-surgical bloodwork performed before their procedure. This helps identify underlying health conditions that may influence anesthesia or surgery.
- Our in-house laboratory is fully equipped. When your pet is sick, we have most results in less than one hour. This allows prompt, accurate treatment.
- During surgery, our patients are monitored constantly with the Cardell monitor. This top-of-the-line technology constantly measures your pet's heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure, EKG heart function, and exhaled carbon dioxide. Information from the Cardell enables us to keep your pet at a safe anesthetic level throughout surgery.
- All our anesthetized patients are kept warm with the "Bair hugger." This sophisticated warming device helps maintain your pet's normal body temperature while under anesthesia.
Why do we have this practice philosophy?
Because ensuring the health of your pet is the most important thing we can do.
Helping you help your pet.
